GAME 6: at Los Angeles’ The Big A
Homer Bailey (Yankees) vs. Michael Pineda (Angels)
With the series on the line, the Angels turned to their brilliant Game 2 starter,
Pineda, and again he was excellent, lasting eight strong innings. The difference in
this contest was that the Yankees committed no errors or passed balls, and Bailey, as
he did around the Yankees gaffes in Game 2, pitched well enough to keep his team in the
game. Leadoff home runs by Pederson and Moustakas in the first two frames gave the Angels
an early 2-0 lead, however, and for a time it seemed that the game script was going to
closely follow Game 2. Bailey cooled down, though, retiring each of the final 15 batters
he faced in what was ultimately a seven-inning, two-run stat line for him. Pineda was one
step better, surrendering only an eighth-inning, solo leadoff homer to Sanchez. Boldly,
despite a subsequent Marte single, McBride kept Pineda in, and the right-handed promptly
got the next three outs to hand the ball to closer Kennedy with a 2-1 score. A one-two-
three ninth by Kennedy knotted the series at 3-3.
Final: ANGELS 2, YANKEES 1
W: Pineda (2-0). L: Bailey (0-2). SV: Kennedy (1). HR: Pederson (3), Moustakas (2),
Sanchez (2).
