Game 3: Santana vs. Simon
Ervin Santana (in typical October fashion) struggled with his command and was pulled in
the 3rd inning before he could give up more than 1 run. A Luke Gregerson double-play ball
got the Expos out of that jam. It was a 2-1 game until the 6th inning, when the wheels
started to fall off for Washington. All Star closer Mark Melancon came into the game to
stop the bleeding but wound up just pouring gasoline on the fire! (Sorry for the mixed
metaphors. It's late. I'm tired.) He really pitches poorly in "non-save" situations, it
seems. Montreal plated 4 in the 6th and then 3 more in the 7th to take a commanding 9-1
lead. Nothing has gone right for Washington, and everything has seemed to work out for
Montreal. Expos 9, Nationals 1
At this point, Shaun just wants to win one game, but he gets Expos ace Madison Bumgarner
again in Game 4!
