Game 3 at PHI: Kuroda and McHugh
Kung Fu Panda homers in the first and Nelson Cruz hits a grand slam in the 3rd and
McHugh’s night is over. It’s 8-0. Deduno is told he might throw 150 pitches in relief
to save the bullpen. Then in the 6th a few guys get on, Deduno is up and Philly pinch-hits
anyway. Now it’s bases loaded and Soria is summoned in relief. Ellsbury doubles in two runs.
Puig doubles in two runs. Two more runs score later. It’s 8-7 in the bottom of the ninth.
Darren O’Day aims to save it. Justin Bour hits one-out, pinch single. Up comes Ellsbury.
And at 8:39 pm ET on a dark, cold, windy, rainy night – or maybe that’s just the real life
weather - Ellsbury smacks it 450 feet (in my mind, at least) for the walk-off blast. I fall
out of my chair. 9-8 Phillies, they win series 3-0.
Thanks to Mike for being able to host, and for all he does for the league. He deserved a
better fate here.
