Game 6: The Brewers send Price to the mound against Karstens with a quick hook ready
and hoping for better results than the last time. Stanton gives the Brewers an early
lead with his first HR of the series and the lead is extended to two on back to back
doubles by Ramirez and Saunders in the 4th. Price is lifted for Janssen in the 6th when
he walks Cabrera to bring Viciedo to the plate. Moss pinch hits and shows Janssen what
he thinks of his reverse split, hooking a pitch down the line just inside the foul pole
and tying the game.
The bullpen battle starts after this, and with neither side able to get much of anything
going the game enters extra innings. Things stay quiet until the 11th, when Moss reaches
on a one out single. Frandsen pushes a single of his own through the right side. Moss is
thinking about 3rd base as soon as he sees the ball sneak through, and Stanton comes up
throwing. Moss hits the dirt as Ramirez sweeps the tag across... out! The Brewers get
another timely outfield assist and Stanton shows that he can provide value even when he's
not hitting (and believe me, he's not).
The Brewers get something of their own going in the bottom of the inning, as Cespedes
forces Mauer at second after a walk and then takes second when Lindstrom throws away a
pickoff attempt. Stanton is intentionally walked and Ramirez is beaned to load the bases,
but Lecure comes in and uses his last third of an inning to get Saunders to fly out and
keep the game going. Both bullpens are getting very thin and when Russell asks "how many
more innings am I going to throw?" (knowing that he's batting 2nd in the 12th and
wondering what I'm going to do about it) I answer with the very unspecific "All of them!"
But that decision never has to be made, as in the top of the 12th Eric Stults enters the
game and Jerry Hairston turns on a high 1-2 pitch that's get up, get up, get outta here,
GONE!!!... sending Bernie Brewer sliding to victory and the series to a 7th game.
