Game 6: Carlos Carrasco vs. Michael Pineda
Suddenly, the Reds are very nervous. The Reds score in the first when Shane
Victorino singles, steals second and scores on Punto's hit. Venable homers in
the fifth to tie it up. Pineda goes seven, striking out seven. Carrasco goes
6.2. It goes to the stellar bullpens. Marshall rebounds and goes 1.2, striking
out three. Robertson retires all four batters he faces. We go to the 10th.
Dotel and Madson go 1-2-3. In comes Adams. Victorino walks with two outs and
steals second -- and then takes third on Molina's throw into center field.
Punto then grounds a base hit into left field for the game and the series.
Fun series. Reds pulled out the tight games with unlikely heroes and help
from uncharacteristic shaky defense from Molina. Congrats to Eric on another
great season.
Series MVP -- Chipper Jones. Unbelievable. 12-for-22 (.545, 1.273 SLG), 2 2B,
3B, 4 HR, 6 R, 9 RBI. No other Reds player had more two RBIs (Punto and Brendan
Ryan!). Votto hit .200 with no extra-base hits and no walks. Victorino hit .125.
Pineda gave up two runs in 14 innings. Reds are looking for big things from him
in his sophomore season. For the Phillies, Yadi hit .375 with six RBIs. Utley
hit .214 and Ellsbury .182.
