Reds take 1-0 lead on Cody Ross’ double and Hanigan’s RBI single in the second but Wandy
settles down. Meanwhile, veteran Freddy Garcia has allowed just one hit through five. Reds
make it 2-0 on Reed Johnson’s RBI double in the sixth. Hanigan is intentionally walked and
Guzman reaches on infield single. Bases loaded, two outs, Garcia up. WHAT DO YOU DO? Reds
send up crafty veteran Garciaparra, trusting their bullpen that was so good against Atlanta
... but he taps back to Wandy. Dodgers breathe sigh of relief.
Robertson pitches two scoreless innings for the Reds. It’s still 2-0 in the eighth. Belisario
enters. Parra hits for Davis and walks. Lopez singles him to third. Tulo lines out. Dunn is up.
Reds have lefty killer Thatcher ready but lefty killer Jose Bautista is ready on the Dodger
bench. Reds decide to leave in Belisario, a groundball pitcher who doesn’t give up homers to
lefties. But Dunn grounds a single into right to score a run. Cabrera hits for Ludwick and
walks to load the bases. Reds face another dilemma with McCann up. Bring in Thatcher? But
Bautista will surely hit for McCann.
They decide to bring Frank Francisco ... Mr. All or Nothing. Well, we call him Home Run Frank
for a reason. McCann blasts a grand slam into the right-field bleachers for a 5-2 lead. Reds
get the tying run to the plate in ninth with one out but Fuentes gets Votto to fly out and
Adam Dunn makes a leaping grab of Eric Patterson’s liner at first base. Dodgers 5, Reds 2.
